Seagate drive semaphor period has timed out12/15/2023 Drive behaves almost the same, except it takes 2 seconds more to hang/be unresponsive. UPDATE: I removed VirtualBox and VMWare from my PC to see if it fixes anything, since they mess with USB functionality a bit and I have been using VirtualBox a lot lately. What's my way out if I intend to make it usable again on my PC, if any? I don't really care about my files being deleted if that's what it takes but I prefer they'd rather not. Interestingly enough, it still works on my car as intended, even resuming playing from the same track it played on last time. I even tried running Seagate SeaTools to diagnose and possibly repair any issues, but the USB stick isn't recognized, which is understandable to an extent. Restarting the computer to initiate CHKDSK while the USB stick is on is impossible since the computer is stuck in the "Shutting down" phase indefinitely (until I remove the USB stick). CHKDSK while the OS is loaded just gives up after hanging for some time. I tried changing the drive letter, but it did nothing. I tried System Restore to rule out any possible modifications on my PC that may have occurred that cause an issue, but once again no solution. It doesn't matter what sub-directory I start copying first, it just can't copy any files. I tried to make a copy of the files inside with multiple methods, including simply copypasting the content and archiving with WinRAR, but also to no avail. I tried to terminate any handles that are "sticking out" from the rest through procexp, but it just crashes. I tried to use it on safe mode on my own computer, other computers, other USB ports (both 3.0 and 2.0), virtual machines with XP installed and even an Ubuntu 14.04 trial disk, to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software for the drive, to no avail. Other USB drives (including external HDDs) still work fine on my PC. ![]() All applications or programs that attempt to interact with it hang or crash. While connected to the computer, the drive is unable to be safely removed, interacted with even through third-party programs, or even formatted. I am also unable to interact with any of the files inside, including copying, deleting, moving etc. I, however, am unable to browse any sub-directories as it hangs indefinitely. Without any apparent cause (including external damage), I recently connected it onto the computer and, while it is recognized by my system, it refuses to do absolutely anything else other than be double-clicked on and show the folder names under E:\ (the directory in which it resides). I occasionally connect it to my Windows 7 64-bit PC to add/remove music. I own a Sandisk Cruzer Fit 32GB USB drive that I mainly use to play music in my car.
